Day 1
Leave Glasgow from your accommodation: Travel north passing up the west side of Loch Lomond. Visit Luss on the Banks of Loch Lomond, travel on to Tarbet and go west to Inverary over the Rest and Be Thankful pass. Coming into Inverary we could visit the Castle with it's fine display of furniture, tapestries, guns, swords, china and paintings. Then continue west to Lochgiplhead, then north to Kilmartin, famous for its pre Celtic stone circles, burial cairns and sentinel stones. Bed and breakfast at Crinan, where you have exceptional views to the Western Islands.
Day 2
Continue north towards Oban and the Bridge over the Atlantic. Spend a little time in Oban before continuing north to Glencoe. We pass Castle Stalker on the way and arrive in Glencoe. Lots of history here with the Massacre in 1692 by the Campbell's and MacDonald's. We now take the road to Fort William and travel eastwards to Kingussie and Speyside. A short drive south takes us to Pitlochry where you will stay the night at a nice bed and breakfast. This lovely town has the smallest distillery in Scotland and is well worth a visit.
Day 3
Retrace our steps a few miles north to Blair Castle, which is a fine example of bastion castle. Home to The Duke of Atholl it has the most comprehensive collection of memorabilia in Scotland. We continue
south to Dunkeld to see the Cathedral before coming into the city Perth. After Perth we make our way to Dunblane and Stirling to see Scotland's battleground during the wars of independence. Visits can be made to the castle and Wallace Monument. Return to Glasgow. |
